World Maritime Day 2017

On 28 and 29 September 2017 the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the global regulator of the shipping industry, celebrates the World Maritime Day, themed this year as: Connecting Ships, Ports and People.

To mark this event Curacao Ports Authority (CPA), in collaboration with the Curacao Pilots Organization (CPO), Maritime Authority of Curacao (MAC) and Kompania di Tou Korsou (KTK), on 28 and 29 September, from 17:00 till 22:00, has organized a range of presentations addressing the pivotal role of the maritime sector in creating the conditions for increased employment, prosperity and economic stability of the country through the promotion of maritime trade.

This 2 day event will also highlight the importance of the cooperation between ports and ships to ensure and enhance the navigational safety and maritime security, the protection of the marine environment and the efficiency of the maritime transportation system.

The event is mainly aimed at prospective seafarers, stakeholders in the maritime sector and the general public. Additionally the event focuses on student awareness regarding maritime studies and courses at local and international educational institutions and certified training agencies. Therefore a total of 100 students have been invited to attend.

The events program is spread over multiple locations:

• Open Day, 28 and 29 September at Kleine Werf: numerous organizations, institutions and authorities will be participating in an informative setting, with booth displays and networking opportunities.
• Student Informative sessions, 28 and 29 September, Luna Blou.
• 29 September, Light parade of ships: Sint Annabaai.

Bureau Telecommunicatie & Post (BT&P), as a regulatory authority and one of the sponsors, will be present during the Open Day, with a team of specialists and professionals providing relevant information on application procedures for authorization of radio communication equipment, radio communication exams, applicable rules and regulations for navigational equipment and more.
