Small-scale sustainable energy
A component of the regulatory framework in the energy sector concerns a separate policy for the generation of small-scale sustainable energy.
This policy forms the basis for the applicable technical guidelines and certification programs in the field of electricity supply in Curaçao. It sets out the regulations governing the connection of installations for non-commercial sustainable energy generation to the public transmission and distribution network, which also allows for feeding electricity back into the grid.
The provisions in the policy on small-scale sustainable energy generation address both the policy-related aspects and the technical and administrative aspects of installing facilities for non-commercial sustainable energy generation. The policy was revised in the autumn of 2025 following consultations with various stakeholders, including several PV installers and PV suppliers, as well as Aqualectra N.V. and the Uitvoeringsorganisatie Openbare Werken. The effective date of the policy is 29 October 2025.
This update takes into account practical considerations as well as technological developments in the field of PV systems.
