Energy policy: Electricity
The implementing policy for the supervisory tasks and –powers of RAC in the field of electricity supply, is derived from the National Energy Policy for Curaçao. The supervisory powers of RAC pursuant to the determined policy comprise in practice the monitoring of the observance in accordance with the stipulations in the granted electricity concessions, particularly oriented to quality and price.
In the field of electricity Curaçao has a number of electricity producers, including Aqualectra Production and producers of sustainable energy. The government has designated only one (1) company as network- and distribution company for the whole of Curaçao, being Aqualectra Distribution. The network company manages the electricity network and the distribution company is in charge of the supply of electricity to the public.
