Since 16 November 2011, it is possible for private persons and businesses in Curaçao to generate electricity for their own use in a sustainable manner, in combination with a grid connection. As per the end of October 2012, tariffs for the retro-supply of electricity are being applied, which for private persons are based on the sett-off principle and for businesses consist of a fee of NAF. 0.42 per kWh. These tariffs were maintained in 2013 and 2014.
After a tentative start, the introduction of the regime for small-scale generation of sustainable electricity proved to be successful. Based on an extensive evaluation of the ‘Tariff guideline small-scale sustainable energy supply’, the Government of the Country Curaçao resolved to proceed to an adjustment of the abovementioned tariffs in 2015.
