ITU Telecom World is the annual ICT event organized by ITU Telecom, part of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN agency responsible for ICT-related issues. This event offers a global platform with the objective of accelerating ICT innovations by aiming for the faster delivery of economic development and social good. The upcoming ITU Telecom World will take place from 14 to 17 November 2016, in Bangkok, Thailand.
With an exhibition for digital solutions, a forum for sharing knowledge and being a networking hub, ITU Telecom World 2016 brings the smartest ideas and entrepreneurial spirit of digital start-ups and ICT SMEs (Small and Medium Sized Enterprises) together with governments, regulators, ICT industry leaders, consultants and experts from emerging and developed markets worldwide. This unique audience has the influence and intelligence to propel socio-economic development, create collaborative opportunities and maximize impact by stimulating ICT industry growth.
Bringing together global ICT community & promoting collaboration
For four decades the ITU Telecom World has been bringing together the global ICT community to share ideas, exhibit new technologies and solutions, debate key trends and network across governments, industry and nations.
During this year’s event the Forum debates will explore collaboration in new technological developments, such as 5G and the Internet of Things, which are powering impactful solutions such as the connected car, smart cities, e-health or digital financial services.
The increasing importance of collaboration in advancing the digital economy will be underlined, but also the value of driving sustainable, global ICT growth. A Leadership Summit and Ministerial Roundtable will serve as platforms for discussion, bringing together highest level participants from government, ICT industry and SMEs, to debate key issues around the value of forging international partnerships to help extend the socio-economic benefits of ICTs.
Main forum topics include:
- Access: Working towards affordable, meaningful and relevant universal access
- Technology: Collaboration in new technological developments from 5G to intellectual property and IoT standards
- Innovation: Innovation in big data models, open source, disruptive start-ups and SMEs and how governments can best support this
- Big policy questions: on spectrum use, regulatory frameworks and Targets
- Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Meeting the SDGs with ICTs from digital inclusion to e-health and young entrepreneurship

These forum topics address solutions that have the potential to dramatically change the lives of communities worldwide for the better and drive ICT industry growth and socio-economic development. However, collaborations of regulators, businesses and government ministries across all sectors are imperative to help accelerate ICT innovations. These collaborations have always been and still are at the very heart of ITU Telecom World.
Standardization, interoperability and security, call for new partnerships, new approaches and new ways of thinking to develop and take to scale new solutions. In a digital ecosystem made up of increasingly more stakeholders, ranging from governments driving policy and regulation to established, major ICT companies, disruptive new OTT players and innovative SMEs, working together is the only way to meet the ICT industry challenges.
ITU Telecom World continues to facilitate important connections across public and private sectors, nations, individuals and ideas while focusing concretely on further developing those connections into meaningful collaboration to ensure an (inter)connected world.
